Rodgers: 'Liverpool could accept Europa spot'

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insists that the club would find it difficult to turn down a place in Europe should it be offered to them.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes that the club will take a place in the Europa League if they are handed the opportunity.

The Reds are currently in second place in the Fair Play table, but with Arsenal likely to qualify for Europe through their league position, that would leave the Merseyside club in pole position to be offered the spot.

Earlier this week, Rodgers had suggested that Liverpool wouldn't be keen on accepting the potential route into Europe, but he has now admitted that it would be hard to turn it down.

The Scot told reporters: "I don't think it's something you turn down, if you get the opportunity to go into European football.

"The journey we had this year in the Europa League was something all the players thoroughly enjoyed.

"It was a great exercise for us. We were bitterly disappointed to go out, and if we get the chance to do it again, then for sure we will."

Liverpool were eliminated from this season's Europa League by Zenit St Petersburg in the second round.
