Brendan Rodgers: "Players were absolutely incredible" in Stoke City win

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers describes his players as "absolutely incredible" after watching them narrowly beat Stoke City to end the club's five-match winless run.

Brendan Rodgers hailed his "absolutely incredible" players after Liverpool ended a five-match winless run with a 1-0 victory over Stoke City this afternoon.

Glen Johnson's 86th-minute goal was the difference between the two sides in an end-to-end match at Anfield, and Rodgers feels that the Reds were worthy of the points.

"I thought the players were absolutely incredible," he told reporters. "The organisation was very strong and what they had to cope with they coped with very well. We created chances in the game and as it went on I thought the goal was coming.

"Glen Johnson shows great courage and bravery to stick his head in there for the goal. He's had a few stitches in his head but he has got his goal and a very important win for us. We encourage the full-backs at the right time to go forward and he got his reward.

"I thought we fully deserved it and to keep a clean sheet against a very good side was pleasing as well. They have got some quality players and you need that bit of luck. As I say, we deserved to win."

Captain Steven Gerrard started on the bench as Liverpool secured a win which takes them above Stoke and up to 11th in the Premier League table ahead of their trip to Leicester City on Tuesday.
