Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly prepared to offer Frenkie de Jong higher wages than Manchester City as they step up their interest in the Ajax ace.

Manchester City face a huge fight to sign £60m-rated midfielder Frenkie de Jong from Ajax, according to a report.

Citizens boss Pep Guardiola is said to have prioritised signing the Netherlands international to act as Fernandinho's long-term successor.

Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are also admirers of De Jong, however, and The Mirror suggests that both clubs can offer the youngster better wages.

The report indicates that Barca currently lead the race for De Jong, while teammate Matthijs de Ligt is also a long-term target.

Speaking on Thursday, the 21-year-old's agent revealed that a decision will be made "in the coming weeks."

However, Ajax will refuse to sell any of their players next month as they are still in Champions League and Eredivisie contention.
