Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart has reportedly been told that he will not feature in England's squad for the World Cup.
At the start of the season, Hart linked up with West Ham United and the long-time Three Lions number one had hoped that a strong campaign on loan at the Hammers would lead to him retaining his place for the tournament in Russia.
However, while making 23 appearances in all competitions, the 31-year-old has found himself in and out of the team and it appears that has counted against the experienced stopper.
According to The Sun, Southgate has already addressed the situation with Hart in person, with the national team boss informing the player that he will not have the chance to add to his 75 caps.
The decision appears to open up the door for Burnley's Nick Pope, who featured in an international squad for the first time as recently as March.
Everton's Jordan Pickford and Stoke City's Jack Butland are expected to go head to head to become first choice at the competition.
