Aaron Wan-Bissaka 'could turn his back on England duty'

Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka is reportedly considering turn his back on the England national team.

Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka could reportedly turn his back on the England national team if he is not selected in Gareth Southgate's upcoming squad.

The 23-year-old has yet to make an appearance for the senior side and has only ever been called up once before, but had to withdraw through injury.

According to The Athletic, Wan-Bissaka could commit to the Democratic Republic of Congo if it becomes clear that he is not in Southgate's plans for the future.

England currently have a wealth of talent in the right-back position, with Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold, Manchester City's Kyle Walker and Atletico Madrid's Kieran Trippier the three names currently in the senior set-up.

Wan-Bissaka, as well as Chelsea's Reece James, Leicester City's James Justin and Brighton & Hove Albion's Tariq Lamptey, have also impressed in the Premier League and could be in contention for a call-up.

However, the former Crystal Palace defender – who has appeared once for Congo's Under-20s side – is unlikely to be selected by Southgate at the moment, which could see him decide to switch allegiances, leaving the Three Lions poised to potentially miss out on another talented prospect.

Wan-Bissaka, who joined United for £50m in June 2019, has made 36 appearances in all competitions so far this campaign, scoring twice and providing three assists.
