Cristiano Ronaldo wants new contract at Real Madrid

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo claims that there is "nowhere better" to play his football than at the Bernabeu, having been linked with a move away from the club.

Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that he is hoping to sign a new deal at Real Madrid after telling other potential suitors to "forget" about making a bid this summer.

Los Blancos' all-time leading goalscorer has continually been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu in recent times, with Paris Saint-Germain and former club Manchester United among those reportedly interested in his services.

Ronaldo, who has often remained coy over his future in the past, has now openly admitted that he plans to remain in place at Madrid for the long term because no other side in the world can match the lure of the La Liga giants.

"Real Madrid would be making a smart decision if they offered me a new contract," he told Spanish television programme La Sexta. "I want to stay here, there have been good moments and bad moments.

"Four years ago I wasn't happy here, but now I am and I can't think of a better club to be at than Real Madrid, there's no team like it. The other clubs can forget it. I've had good moments, and bad ones. That's life.

"Four years ago I wasn't happy because I didn't like certain things that were happening. But now I really am happy and I want to stay at this club because I don't see any club which is better than Real Madrid. If you weigh everything up, there's nowhere better."

Despite claiming that he was unhappy at the club in 2012, Ronaldo penned a contract extension the following year that runs through until 2018.
