Danny Murphy: 'Fernandes arrival opens door for Pogba exit'

Danny Murphy claims that Paul Pogba should soon be on his way out of Old Trafford following Bruno Fernandes's impressive performances since his arrival.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has claimed that Bruno Fernandes's arrival at Old Trafford opens the door for Paul Pogba to leave Manchester United.

Fernandes has impressed for United since his move from Sporting Lisbon, registering two goals and two assists in four league appearances so far.

The 25-year-old scored the equaliser for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side as they drew 1-1 with Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, and Murphy believes that Pogba's time with the Red Devils could be up.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Murphy said: "The fact he's adapted so quickly has given United a better chance of getting in the top four, and I think it also means United now have the green light to say: 'let's let Pogba go'.

"You really wouldn't want to keep Pogba and play him as a holding midfielder.

"Fernandes's best position is as part of a midfield three or in front of two holding players. They can build the team around this fella, he's that good!

"I wouldn't be worried now [about losing Pogba], because Fernandes will score and make more goals.

"He's more effective and more productive than Pogba. His numbers will be better than Pogba's at Manchester United, I think – 100%."

Twenty-six-year-old Pogba has made 143 appearances for United since rejoining from Juventus, scoring 31 goals.
