Manchester United legend Bryan Robson admits that he would be "very surprised" if Wayne Rooney stayed at the club beyond the close season.

Manchester United legend Bryan Robson has admitted that he would be "surprised" if Wayne Rooney does not depart Old Trafford this summer.

Rooney has enjoyed an illustrious career at United having joined from Everton at the age of 18, but the frontman has had to settle for a limited role under Jose Mourinho this term, sparking speculation of a move away from the Red Devils during the close season.

"I'd be very surprised if Wayne is with us next season because I think he wants to move on to get first team football," Robson told BBC Radio 5 live.

"I know Wayne really well, he will be really disappointed that he has been left out of the England squad... he has been involved with the squad all the time, he's been training, he has played a lot of the league games of late."

Rooney has won five Premier League titles, one Champions League, the Europa League and one FA Cup crown while at United.
