Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly having second thoughts over whether to extend Lionel Messi's stay at the club by activating a year-long extension in his contract.

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly begun to question whether they want to keep Lionel Messi at the club by activating a year-long extension in the player's current contract.

The 35-year-old has continued to contribute significantly in Ligue 1 this season having appeared 23 times, scoring 13 and assisting 13 as the Parisians lead the way in the domestic standings by seven points.

Despite success in the league, the World Cup winner has been unable to guide Christophe Galtier's men to an elusive Champions League title since joining from Barcelona in the summer of 2021.

According to the Daily Mail, PSG are having second thoughts over whether they should extend Messi's stay at Parc des Princes by another year, with the attacker's current deal expiring in the summer.

The report also claims that Messi and the club had agreed a deal in principle prior to the World Cup to activate the clause, however following the team's exit from the Champions League against Bayern Munich, the PSG hierarchy are said to be less keen.

The ex-Barcelona man will link up with his national team this week for the first time since that victory over France in the World Cup final, with La Albiceleste facing Panama and Curacao in friendly matches.
