Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti reportedly challenges striker Karim Benzema to score 50 goals next season, despite his best so far being 32 in a single campaign.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly set striker Karim Benzema the challenge of scoring 50 goals for Los Blancos next season.

During the just-completed season, Benzema managed to find the back of the net on 30 occasions in all competitions for Real Madrid, which earned him his first France call-up in six years for Euro 2020.

The Frenchman has never scored more than 32 goals in a single campaign for the Spanish giants, and compared to nearly netting 90 times in the last three seasons, his scoring tally was significantly lower during Ancelotti's first spell at the Bernabeu.

According to The Mirror, Ancelotti has set Benzema the challenge of recording his best ever goalscoring season next year, and has suggested that the squad will help him achieve that.

"The objective is to score goals but that's not just [about] signing someone who scores 30; it's looking for goals from wingers, midfielders. It's putting in place a system and mentality that's attacking," Ancelotti explained at a press conference.

"I think the squad is very good. There's a mix of players with experience - Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Sergio Ramos, Gareth Bale, Benzema - and young players with quality: Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Federico Valverde... the squad is big, we'll have to reduce it a bit."

Since arriving at the Bernabeu in 2009, Benzema has scored 279 goals in 559 appearances for the club.
