Cristiano Ronaldo pens new five-year Real Madrid deal

Cristiano Ronaldo joins Gareth Bale in committing his long-term future to Real Madrid by penning a five-year deal at the Bernabeu.

Cristiano Ronaldo has committed his future to Real Madrid by signing a new deal that will keep him in place at the Bernabeu until 2021.

The 31-year-old joins Gareth Bale in agreeing fresh terms, exactly a week on from the Welshman himself putting pen to paper.

Ronaldo's previous contract was due to expire in June 2018, but he looks likely to now stay in the Spanish capital for the remainder of his peak years thanks to the new five-year deal.

A statement on Madrid's official website confirmed the news on Sunday evening, with an official ceremony to take place on Monday to mark the big announcement.

Ronaldo has scored 358 goals in seven years at Real since making a high-profile move from Manchester United for a then-record fee, helping Real to two Champions League trophies and also lifting the La Liga title on one occasion.

The Portuguese played a full part for Los Blancos in their 3-0 win over Leganes this afternoon, but failed to add to his seven-goal tally for the season.
