David Texeira scores twice as Dallas beat Seattle Sounders 3-1 to prevent their rivals from extending the lead at the top of the Western Conference.

David Texeira scored twice to help Dallas to a 3-1 victory and prevent the Seattle Sounders from extending their lead at the top of the Western Conference.

Dallas made a very bright start to the match, and were rewarded in the eighth minute when David Texeira latched on to a header from Andres Escobar, before firing home from a tight angle.

Seattle responded well to falling behind and enjoyed a long spell of domination in the first half as they piled the pressure on the hosts.

However, Dallas were holding firm thanks to Raul Fernandez, who made saves to deny both Marco Pappa and Clint Dempsey before the break.

Seattle were on top once again in the second half, and finally levelled the scores just before the hour mark when Lamar Neagle fired an unstoppable effort past Fernandez from close to 30 yards out moments after coming on as a substitute.

Neither team were willing to take a backward step as they went in search of a winner, and it was Dallas who enjoyed success thanks to a strong finish.

Escobar once again played a key role as he took the ball past three Seattle defenders before crossing to Texeira, who had the simple task of tapping in his second of the night.

The gap between the two sides was widened in the 88th minute as Blas Perez wrapped up the victory by heading home Michel's inviting cross.
