Sheffield Wednesday announce that head coach Carlos Carvalhal has left the club, with the Owls failing to win any of their last seven fixtures.

Sheffield Wednesday have announced that head coach Carlos Carvalhal has left the club by mutual consent.

Carvalhal guided the Owls to the Championship playoffs in his first two seasons at Hillsborough, but the Yorkshire giants have struggled during the current campaign and sit in 15th place in the standings.

Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough was the club's seventh game without a win at the second tier, and a decision has been made for Carvalhal to leave after 131 games in charge.

Chairman Dejphon Chansiri told the club's official website: "I would like to offer my sincere thanks to Carlos for the time, effort and commitment he has given Sheffield Wednesday over the last two and a half years.

"Both parties believe the time is right to go our separate ways. I maintain a huge amount of respect for Carlos as a coach and as a person and he will always be welcome at Hillsborough. I wish him every success in the future."

On Saturday night, Middlesbrough announced that Garry Monk had been sacked, despite leading the North-East outfit to victory over the Owls earlier in the day.
