Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has backed the decision to suspend professional football in England due to coronavirus.
While the government initially announced that the Premier League would continue as normal, positive tests for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi have led to the Football Association and England's top flight bringing a halt to the campaign.
Taking to Twitter to comment on the situation, Alderweireld acknowledged that the correct call has been made by the relevant parties.
The Belgian said: "The well-being of fans, players, staff and everyone must come first during this situation. Please respect and follow the measures taken to try to turn this around as soon as possible.
"My thoughts go out to those already affected and I hope every can stay as safe and healthy as possible."
As it stands, the Premier League is due to get back underway on April 4.
