Wigan Athletic midfielder James McArthur tells his teammates to forget their disappointing display at Newcastle United and focus on facing Queens Park Rangers this weekend.

Wigan Athletic midfielder James McArthur has insisted that his team need to focus on facing Queens Park Rangers in their "biggest match of the season" to date.

Newcastle United condemned Wigan to defeat on Monday after the Latics had Maynor Figueroa sent off just 12 minutes in.

McArthur believes that his teammates must quickly put that match to the back of their minds and prepare for a relegation battle against QPR this weekend.

He told the club's official website: "The red card had a big impact on the game and then of course they score a goal from the spot which is a double blow.

"It was disappointing but we've got a massive match against QPR at the weekend and that has to be the main focus from now on.

"It is the biggest game of the season now in terms of trying to show people how we can battle against adversity like we did last season. We need to draw a line in the sand because we've played with 10 men for 80 minutes."

Roberto Martinez will be unable to call on Figueroa to face the Hoops after he was handed an automatic one-match ban for the dismissal against the Magpies.
