Emmerson Boyce grabs late winner for Wigan Athletic

Emmerson Boyce scores a late goal as Wigan Athletic come behind to beat Blackburn Rovers.

Wigan Athletic have come from behind to beat Blackburn Rovers in the Championship.

Rovers were ahead after only eight minutes when Tommy Spurr collected Scott Carson's drop to fire home. However, Grant Hanley's red card changed the game.

Wigan's first effort of the afternoon came when James McArthur fired wide after good build-up play from Jean Beausejour.

Ben Watson then inadvertently kicked the ball out for a corner to Blackburn as he tried to play it back to Carson.

James McClean had a chance with a 30-yard free kick but he struck the wall before hitting the rebound down the throat of Jake Kean in the away goal.

Rovers were reduced to 10 men, however, when Hanley was sent off for striking Nick Powell in the face.

Powell then had a chance to level the scores but headed into Kean's hands.

With the one-man advantage, Wigan had the majority of the ball in the early stages of the second half but were unable to force the equaliser.

The goal did come, however, with 20 minutes remaining. Grant Holt followed up a corner and forced the ball in.

Beausejour had a chance with a left foot shot, but after chesting the ball down, he placed it wide.

The winning goal came deep into injury time when Emmerson Boyce headed in Watson's free kick.
