Preview: Wycombe Wanderers vs. Peterborough United - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's League One clash between Wycombe Wanderers and Peterborough United, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Peterborough United will travel to Adams Park for Saturday's League One encounter with Wycombe Wanderers.

The hosts are sitting in fifth place with 17 points to their name, while Posh are two points adrift in 12th position.

Wycombe will be satisfied with their efforts in the opening two months of the season, having won five, drawn two and lost two of their nine league matches.

After losing their opening two league games of the season, Wycombe have gone on to win five and draw two of their next seven matches in the third tier.

In their most recent outing, the Chairboys clinched a narrow 1-0 home win over Crawley Town thanks to Fred Onyedinma's first-half effort.

That result represented Wycombe's third consecutive home league victory, moving them into fifth spot and three points adrift of the top two.

The Chairboys will fancy their chances of adding to their points tally this weekend, having avoided defeat in each of their last seven home league games against Peterborough.

Posh are currently two points adrift of Wycombe after winning four, drawing three and losing four of their 11 league matches.

Peterborough have won just one of their last five league matches (D2, L2), but they did manage to avoid defeat in last Saturday's home game against Rotherham United.

Darren Ferguson's side fought back from 3-1 down to play out a 3-3 draw thanks to an own goal and an Emmanuel Fernandez equaliser.

After extending their unbeaten home run to five competitive matches, Posh will now head on their travels with hopes of ending a three-game winless away run.

If they are to claim all three points, Peterborough will have to beat Wycombe in an away game for the first time since November 2003.

Team News

Wycombe Wanderers' Richard Kone on September 13, 2024© Imago

Wycombe forward Brandon Hanlan is making progress in his recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, but the striker remains unavailable for Saturday's home fixture.

The hosts are also without the services of Ryan Tafazolli and Sam Vokes, who have been out of action since August due to injury.

Richard Kone will given the responsibility of leading the line, with the striker looking to add to the three goals that he has scored this season.

As for the visitors, they are unable to call upon Jadel Katongo, Hector Kyprianou, Mahamadou Susoho, Chris Conn-Clarke and Rio Adebisi.

Having completed a one-match suspension, midfielder Archie Collins is expected to return to the starting lineup for Saturday's away trip.

Bradley Ihionvein will provide a useful option off the bench after returning from injury to feature as a late substitute against Rotherham.

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Ravizzoli; Grimmer, Low, Taylor, Harvie; McCleary, Scowen, Butcher, Humphreys, Onyedinma; Kone

Peterborough United possible starting lineup:
Steer; Dornelly, Fernandez, Wallin, Sparkes; O'Brien-Brady, Collins; Poku, Randall, Mothersille; Jones

We say: Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 Peterborough United

Wycombe have proved to be a strong force at Adams Park this season, having won each of their last three home league matches.

However, Peterborough have fallen to back-to-back away defeats, and we think that they will experience another disappointing road trip in Saturday's contest.
