Brian Smith has quit as England attack coach following Martin Johnson's departure last week.

England attack coach Brian Smith has stepped down from his post following the aftermath of the national side's disastrous World Cup campaign.

While the former fly-half has followed head coach Martin Johnson's departure, the leaked confidential World Cup reports contains quotes from a number of players disparaging Smith's position.

"If we'd got to the semi-finals or final it would have papered over the cracks and the worst thing is Brian Smith would have stayed in his job. It might be a blessing," BBC Sport quotes a player as saying in the report.

The 45-year-old was the only coach appointed by Johnson three years ago.
