Lewis Moody targets England return ahead of the team's opening World Cup fixture against Argentina.

England captain Lewis Moody has admitted that he is close to regaining fitness in time for England’s first World Cup match against Argentina.

The 33-year-old, who has 67 international caps to his name, has been plagued with injury this season.

Despite the flanker’s more recent leg injury, Moody is confident that he is on his way to being fully fit for the national side.

"Everyone has been very confident and I am happy at how it has gone,” BBC Sport quotes Moody as saying. “The target is still next week and playing against Argentina.

"The most important thing is that the medics and the physios are happy with me and they are not going to risk me if it is not right and I go in and knacker it again."

England begin their World Cup campaign against Argentina on September 10.
