Lewis Moody is ruled out of England's opening World Cup clash with Argentina.

Captain Lewis Moody will miss England’s Rugby World Cup opening game against Argentina as he continues to battle with a long-term knee injury.

The flanker sustained the injury while playing for Bath in January and went on to miss the Six Nations tournament.

The 33-year-old limped off the field during England’s World Cup warm-up match against Wales in August when the injury resurfaced.

Moody claimed last week that he was on the road to selection for the opening clash, but Martin Johnson has confirmed that the Bath Rugby man will not play a part.

England take on the Pumas on Saturday, September 10.
