French club Bayonne have suspended scrum-half Mike Phillips for an undetermined length of time.
Phillips will also face a financial penalty for his misconduct that will prevent him from playing for the French Top 14 club until further notice.
Bayonne originally said that the 30-year-old would be unavailable for a fortnight due to a hand injury, but have now revealed that he has joined French winger Cedric Heymans on the suspended list.
"There will be no exceptions or excuses. All players are now warned - the club will no longer allow misconduct on the part of players, and they may be exposed to greater penalties," read a statement by Alain Afflelou, chairman of Bayonne's board of directors.
"We have enough quality young players at the club. Just because some are bigger names, it does not mean they are protected and above the group.
"Through these measures, I also want to preserve the vast majority of players who give back and get involved on a daily basis for the good of the club."
Phillips, who joined Bayonne from Ospreys last year, has won 67 caps for Wales, scoring 40 points.
