Roger Federer gives Switzerland perfect start

Roger Federer beats Simone Bolelli in straight sets to earn Switzerland an early lead over Italy in the Davis Cup semi-finals.

Roger Federer has given Switzerland a 1-0 lead in the Davis Cup semi-final clash with Italy after he overcome Simone Bolelli.

The Swiss are favourites to win the competition for the first time in their history, and Federer has earned the perfect start for his team after sweeping past Bolelli.

After the world number two came through a closely-fought opening set in a tie-break, he broke once during the next two sets to record a 7-6 6-4 6-4 success.

The second rubber of the tie will see Stanislas Wawrinka play Fabio Fognini.
