Former world number one Andy Murray reportedly withdraws from this year's French Open in order to focus on the upcoming grass-court season.

Former world number one Andy Murray has reportedly decided that he will not be competing at this year's French Open in order to focus on the upcoming grass-court season.

The three-time Grand Slam winner ended a four-year title drought at the Aix-en-Provence Challenger event earlier this month before a first-round Italian Open defeat to Fabio Fognini.

Murray returned to the Challenger circuit in Bordeaux last week, but his run was brought to a swift end in the last 16 by Stan Wawrinka, and he has now called an early end to his clay season.

According to BBC Sport, Murray will not be present at Roland-Garros as he prioritises a deep run at Wimbledon, and he is also expected to compete at the warm-up event at Queen's Club from June 19 to 25.

The 36-year-old has played just one French Open match since 2018, bowing out in the first round of the 2020 tournament to Wawrinka before missing the 2021 and 2022 editions.

Murray adds to a list of high-profile withdrawals from Roland-Garros, where defending men's champion Rafael Nadal and Nick Kyrgios will also be notable absentees.

The 2023 French Open takes place from May 28 to June 11.
