Maria Kirilenko has reached the quarter-finals of the French Open with a 7-5 6-4 victory over Bethanie Mattek-Sands.
The first set was a close contest between the pair as games were won by the way of serve, almost forcing the set into a tie-break.
Despite being evenly matched, it was Kirilenko who managed to grab a vital break on the clay court to give herself the edge and take a one-set lead.
The blow for Mattek-Sands proved telling as she was unable to launch a comeback as Kirilenko looked more comfortable on the court by nabbing an early break.
The 12th seed continued her dominance with strong shots across the court to wrap up the set and progress into the next round.
