David Ferrer says that he overcame first-set nerves to defeat Jurgen Melzer in the quarter-finals of the Miami Masters.

David Ferrer has said that he felt nervous at the beginning of his quarter-final match with Jurgen Melzer at the Miami Masters.

The Spaniard dropped the first set but eventually prevailed 6-4 6-3 6-0 to reach his third semi-final in this tournament.

"I was a little bit nervous in the first set and part of the second," Ferrer told reporters. "But I tried to fight every point, to be focused.

"I had a good feeling in the final of the second set and of course in the third one.

"Now I am in the semi-final. I will have to play very good against Tommy Haas or Gilles Simon to be in the final."

Ferrer reached the last four in 2005 and 2006.
