Marin Cilic wins two breakers to advance through at the Madrid Open against John Isner.

Marin Cilic got the better of John Isner over two tie-breakers at the Madrid Open this afternoon.

Neither player was able to force a single break of serve across the entire contest in the Spanish capital.

Croatia's Cilic claimed the early initiative in the first breaker and went on to record a 7-4 success.

In the next breaker Isner began poorly with a double fault, which was his first of the match. A second service error soon followed to allow Cilic to open up a 6-3 advantage.

He made the most of that opportunity when he forced Isner to strike the ball long to claim a 7-6 7-6 victory.

Cilic will now face either Juan Martin Del Potro or Mikhail Youzhny in round three.
