Marin Cilic overcomes Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to reach quarter-finals in Rotterdam

Marin Cilic beats number five seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets to advance to the quarter-finals of the Rotterdam Open.

Marin Cilic is through to the quarter-finals of the Rotterdam Open after defeating number five seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets.

The 25-year-old looked in excellent form throughout the match and set his stall out early with some powerful strokes to match the Frenchman. He earned a crucial break on his way to taking the first set 6-4.

Cilic continued to have success in the second set as he carved out three break opportunities. Although Tsonga was able to save two of them he couldn't stop the Croat the third time, as he claimed the set 6-4 to win the match.

The 25-year-old will play the winner of the second-round match between Andy Murray and Dominic Thiem.
