British number one Andy Murray produces an assured display to overcome Gilles Simon in straight sets and progress to the quarter-finals of the Sony Ericsson Open.

Andy Murray has progressed to the quarter-finals of the Sony Ericsson Open with a 6-3 6-4 win over Gilles Simon.

Following the cancelation of his clash with Milos Raonic on Sunday, Murray had only 76 minutes of matchplay under his belt since his early exit at Indian Wells a fortnight ago.

The British number one looked far from rusty though, as he destroyed the Simon serve in game four, breaking to love, before wrapping up the first set with ease.

The second set was almost identical to the first, as the Scot was untroubled on his own serve and claimed a solitary, yet emphatic, break in the seventh game.

Murray made fewer then half of his first serves, but his patience was rewarded as he claimed an impressive 79% of points behind his second.

Janko Tipsarevic awaits the world number four after the Serb overcame Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets.
