Roger Federer will be facing one of the fastest tennis players in Bjorn Phau this evening, according to his fellow professionals.

Roger Federer's next opponent and the US Open has been dubbed by his fellow professionals as one of the quickest men currently playing the game.

Bjorn Phau has made a reputation for himself as a speed merchant since he turned professional back in 2000.

Asked by the ATP's official website what he makes of being known as one of the fastest players on Tour, the 32-year-old said: "Of course, it's an honour to be called that. I'm not that tall, so I have to be quite quick to compensate for it.

"I always try to get to the balls. That's what I can rely on the most when I'm on the court."

The German also believes that his premier speed allows him to continue rallies that others may lose.

"I think my strength lies within the rally. For example, if my opponent approaches and hits the ball into the corner, I'm able to get the ball back and recover," he added.

Phau is expected on court against world number one Federer at around midnight.
