Rafael Nadal can play Mardy Fish without aggravating his foot.

Rafael Nadal will be able to play in today’s quarter-finals without fear of his foot injury reappearing, a doctor has said.

The defending champion had worried that his tournament was over when he felt something “crush” in his left foot during his fourth-round clash with Juan Martin Del Potro.

He was cleared to play following an MRI scan yesterday, and Dr Ignacio Munoz of the Spanish Tennis Federation has commented that the injury will not resurface.

“There is no risk in him playing,” he said. “You can see that he is training quite normally. I don’t think he will have any problems.”

Nadal will take to Court One to face Mardy Fish following Bernard Tomic’s meeting with Novak Djokovic. If Nadal wins today, he will go on to play either Andy Murray or Feliciano Lopez in the semi-finals.
