Kim Clijsters began her final Wimbledon campaign with a 6-2 6-4 win over Jelena Jankovic this afternoon.
The Belgian, who has never gone beyond the semi-finals at SW19, began the encounter the brighter of the two players with a string of forehand strokes.
She went on to make the most of her advantage by claiming a 6-2 success in the opener.
The 29-year-old appeared to be heading for a similar result in the second set as she opened up a 4-2 lead. However, Jankovic responded by breaking back, before going on to hold her service game to level up to scores at four games apiece.
Clijsters then held her own serve to go 5-4 in front, before breaking again to seal her route into round two.
