Gareth Southgate expects quick Jack Wilshere return for Arsenal

England boss Gareth Southgate says that he expects Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere to be available for Sunday's Premier League encounter with Stoke City.

England boss Gareth Southgate has predicted that Jack Wilshere will be ready to represent Arsenal against Stoke City at the weekend.

Wilshere has been forced to withdraw from the England squad to face Italy due to a knee injury, with the issue having previously kept the midfielder out of the game with the Netherlands on Friday.

However, Southgate has suggested that there is no long-term concern over the player, who had been hoping to make an impact on the international scene for the first time since 2016.

At a press conference, the 47-year-old told reporters: "I've no reason to believe that he would be back for their next game. It's an ongoing issue which he has to manage.

"He wasn't going to be ready for us but I'm pretty sure that he will be back for Arsenal's next game."

Southgate has insisted that Wilshere still has time to earn a place in England's World Cup squad.
