Paul Lambert disappointed by chants from Aston Villa fans

Paul Lambert admits that it was "strange" to hear fans calling for him to be sacked in Aston Villa's 1-0 win over Blackpool.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has admitted that he was surprised to hear supporters criticise him during the 1-0 win over Blackpool in the FA Cup.

Chants of 'we want Lambert out' could be heard as Villa struggled for a breakthrough before Christian Benteke's late winner, and the Scot believes that the protests from fans could have a negative impact on the players.

"When you are dominating the game and the lads are patient, then it's a bit strange," Lambert told reporters. "The goal was a great goal and I knew the way we were playing we'd get something.

"I've had it all my career at times but it doesn't do the lads any good, it doesn't do the team any good. The players have been great but don't get me wrong, they'll be hurt by it.

"We had a lot of the ball and you just have to keep knocking on the door. You have to keep patient and building up and all credit to the team for doing it. We were not struggling."

Villa have scored twice in six games, and have won just three of their last 17 outings.
