Aston Villa defender Matt Lowton is adamant his side must keep battling to retain their Premier League status despite their win over Stoke City.

Aston Villa defender Matt Lowton feels that his side must keep battling for survival despite their 3-1 win over Stoke City.

The 23-year-old scored a stunning goal in the win at the Britannia Stadium which lifted Paul Lambert's side two points clear of the relegation zone in the Premier League.

"We've pulled Stoke to within one point of us and overtaken a few," he told reporters. "The timing was crucial.

"The three points are fantastic but there's a long way to go. We can't leave it here. We've got to take it into the next games.

"It was massively important. Stoke were in and around us. They're not on the best run, so it was important for us to keep the momentum from the last couple of weeks and keep on winning."

Aston Villa face Fulham in the Premier League next Saturday.
