Franz Beckenbauer urges Bayern Munich to keep hold of Thomas Muller

Bayern Munich honorary president Franz Beckenbauer warns the club that they should not allow Thomas Muller to leave, amid speculation linking him with Manchester United.

Bayern Munich honorary president Franz Beckenbauer has told the club that they should keep hold of Thomas Muller, amid speculation linking him with Manchester United.

The 24-year-old forward has been widely tipped to move to Old Trafford this summer, while Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has refused to rule out a departure.

"You shouldn't keep passengers, but they should fight to keep Thomas Muller if he has such plans," Beckenbauer told Bild.

"He is an established figure under Pep Guardiola. So they should do everything possible to keep Muller. They should only look for another solution if he refuses categorically."

Muller is under contract with Bayern until 2017.
