Injured defender George Taft returns to parent club Burton Albion

George Taft has his six-month loan spell at Cambridge United cut short due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained against Yeovil Town.

Burton Albion defender George Taft has had his loan spell at Cambridge United cut short after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament.

The 22-year-old sustained the injury during the side's 3-2 win over Yeovil Town last weekend, with a scan revealing the full extent of the damage.

Taft, who had featured 13 times for United since joining on a six-month deal in July, will now undergo treatment at his parent club.

Having been hit by the injury blow, the Leicester City academy product took to Twitter to say: "A huge thank you & Best wishes to everybody at Cambridge United, great bunch of lads & club, would love to see them push on & get promotion."

Taft helped keep two clean sheets, while also scoring one goal of his own, during his time at Abbey Stadium.
