Former England captain Terry Butcher has called on Roy Hodgson to build his Euro 2016 team around Everton midfielder Ross Barkley.
The 21-year-old has impressed for club and country so far this season, helping the Three Lions to see out a perfect qualifying campaign with wins over Estonia and Lithuania last month.
With the likes of Jack Wilshere and Jordan Henderson currently sidelined through injury and captain Wayne Rooney suffering from poor form, Butcher believes that Barkley would be a good focal point for the team in midfield.
"Ross Barkley impressed in qualifying and he must play, Roy Hodgson must find a place for him in the team," Butcher told talkSPORT.
"He'll have to do a lot more defensive work, chasing and closing down, but it's his work on the ball is his real quality.
"I think he should play and that they should virtually build a team around him."
England take on Spain in a friendly on Friday before welcoming Euro 2016 hosts France to Wembley on Tuesday.
