Alan Shearer: 'Teams will not fear England'

Former England striker Alan Shearer claims that his country 'will not be feared' in the knockout round of Euro 2016.

Alan Shearer has claimed that England 'will not be feared' in the knockout stage of Euro 2016.

The Three Lions have booked their spot in the round of 16 after finishing second behind Wales in Group B, but they only won one of their three group matches, drawing their other two with Russia and Slovakia.

Shearer, who scored 30 times in 63 games for England between 1992 and 2000, has claimed that his country will not be feared opposition in France and has also suggested that Roy Hodgson 'does not know his best team'.

"England manager Roy Hodgson says he does not fear anyone in the knockout stages, which is fair enough, but I do not see any teams being scared of playing us either," Shearer told BBC Sport.

"I do not want to be too negative but we have had three games at Euro 2016 so far and we were held by Russia, who are the worst team in the tournament, we beat Wales with a last-minute goal and we could not score against Slovakia.

"I have not changed my mind about what I said on BBC One after the Slovakia game on Monday - I don't think Roy knows his best XI, or his best system, and that is where we are struggling."

England will face the runners-up of Group F in their last-16 clash on Monday night in Nice.
