Former Everton defender Alan Stubbs has said that Ronald Koeman would be the "perfect" appointment as the club's new manager.
Koeman has just one year remaining on his contract with current club Southampton, and recent reports have claimed that Everton are willing to make the Dutchman a lucrative offer to succeed Roberto Martinez at Goodison Park.
Stubbs, who himself has recently been appointed as the new manager of Rotherham United, believes that it would be a "brilliant" move if the Toffees can pull it off having seen Koeman steer the Saints to a sixth-place finish last season.
"I think he is the perfect candidate. If I had a choice as an Everton fan, which I am, my number one target would have been Ronald Koeman," he told talkSPORT.
"I thought a couple of weeks ago it wasn't going to happen but you know how quickly things can change in football and if Everton manage to do the deal, it is a brilliant appointment.
"It is a crossroads for Everton right now but Ronald Koeman is the perfect choice to take the club forward. He is an exciting manager, he has done fantastic in the Premier League and his profile and demeanour is one that would really connect with the Everton fans."
Everton have also been linked with former boss David Moyes and ex-Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini over the vacant post.
