Jarrad Branthwaite admits that he wants to stay at Everton this season in order to fight for his place, rather than leave on a loan deal.

Jarrad Branthwaite has admitted that he would prefer to stay at Everton this season rather than head out on loan during the January transfer window.

The young defender was recently given an opportunity to start for the Toffees against Chelsea, and he made his mark at Stamford Bridge by scoring the equaliser.

Rafael Benitez's squad has been depleted due to injuries and COVID-19 related issues, which allowed him the chance to feature, and he is now hopeful he can remain at Goodison Park this season.

"I have been patient to get that first-team chance at Everton. I just felt I should go out there and prove that I am good enough. Hopefully, I have done that," Branthwaite told the press.

"Young players need to play but obviously I would much rather stay at Everton and play games and keep showing the manager what I am capable of. I am willing to do it, I am good enough to do it."

Everton will next be in action against Newcastle United on Thursday, where Branthwaite will be hoping to make his second appearance of the season in the Premier League.
