Half-Time Report: Freddie Sears fires Ipswich Town into half-time lead

A brace from Freddie Sears gives Ipswich Town a 2-1 half-time lead against Blackpool at Portman Road.

Andrea Orlandi's third goal of the season for already-relegated Blackpool was cancelled out by a Freddie Sears brace as Ipswich Town came from behind to lead at half-time.

Orlandi put the Seasiders ahead after just four minutes when he confidently swept home Henry Cameron's left-wing cross from close range.

Almost immediately after the away side had taken the lead, Ipswich's Daryl Murphy found himself bearing down on goal, only for Blackpool captain Peter Clarke to deny him with a crucial last-ditch tackle.

Teddy Bishop then curled an effort narrowly wide of the left-hand post and Luke Varney nodded Bishop's corner inches wide of goal as Ipswich stepped up their pursuit of an equaliser.

That leveller came on 24 minutes when Sears lashed home a left-foot effort after a cross from the right had been nodded down and into his path at the back post.

Sears then completed a remarkable turnaround for Mick McCarthy's side when he rounded off a neat passing move from close range.

It could have been worse for the visitors had referee James Linington awarded a penalty after an apparent handball in the box by Clarke shortly before half time, but to the relief of the travelling fans he waved away Ipswich's appeals.
