Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Atalanta BC

Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the Champions League Group D clash against Atalanta.

Liverpool will be looking to make it three wins from three in Group D of the Champions League when they visit Bergamo to take on Atalanta BC on Tuesday night.

Jurgen Klopp's side have beaten Ajax and FC Midtjylland to take early control of the group, while across all competitions they have won each of their last four outings.

Liverpool's good form has come despite a mounting injury crisis, particularly in defence, and in Atalanta the patched-up backline face one of Europe's most potent attacks.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension list ahead of the contest.

Virgil van Dijk

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Virgil van Dijk is likely to miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious ACL injury during the Merseyside derby against Everton last month. The Dutchman has now undergone successful surgery on the problem, but faces a long road to recovery.

Fabinho

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: Unknown

Already drafted in as an emergency centre-back himself, Fabinho's hamstring injury further limits Liverpool's defensive options. His withdrawal from the Brazil squad suggests that he will not be ready to return until after the international break.

Thiago Alcantara

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: November 3 (vs. Atalanta)

Klopp has been coy on the fitness of Thiago Alcantara, who has been unable to feature since the Merseyside derby. The injury is not thought to be serious, but he has now missed the last four games across all competitions and is yet to return to training ahead of this match.

Naby Keita

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Unspecified
Possible return date: November 3 (vs. Atalanta)

Naby Keita again missed out against West Ham United at the weekend, but he returned to full training on Sunday and so could therefore be in contention to feature in some capacity in this match.

Joel Matip

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: November 3 (vs. Atalanta)

Joel Matip's return cannot come soon enough considering Liverpool's other defensive injury problems, and the centre-back could be back for this one having also resumed full training on Sunday.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is still sidelined with a knee problem he picked up in pre-season, and no date has yet been put on his return.

Kostas Tsimikas

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: November 3 (vs. Atalanta)

Kostas Tsimikas is closing in on a return to action and could even play some part on Tuesday, although he would need to pass a late fitness test if that is to happen.

LIVERPOOL'S SUSPENSION LIST

Liverpool have no players suspended for this Champions League showdown.
