Martin Skrtel slams "unacceptable" Liverpool over contract offer

Martin Skrtel casts his Liverpool future in doubt after slamming the club's "unacceptable" terms of a contract extension.

Martin Skrtel has hit out at Liverpool for the "unacceptable" terms of a prospective new contract at Anfield.

Skrtel, whose existing deal expires next summer, was thought to be nearing an extension but complications arose over a clause relating to the number of games he needs to play.

The 30-year-old's future on Merseyside now appears to be less certain after suggesting that the terms on offer are designed for players with more miles on the clock than him.

"It's unacceptable for me. I think that such contracts are offered to players who are much older than me or players who have had some health problems," he told Aktualne.

"The contract, which was presented to me, makes me uneasy, so I did not sign it.

"There has been some speculation about the interest of other clubs for my person, but they are currently being addressed."

The Slovakian joined the club from Zenit St Petersburg in 2008.
