Luis Suarez plays down transfer speculation

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez denies reports suggesting that he could join Barcelona or Real Madrid this summer.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has denied reports claiming that he has a release clause allowing him to join Barcelona or Real Madrid.

The Uruguayan international, 27, signed a new four-and-a-half-year deal with the Merseysiders back in December following widespread speculation over his future.

However, fresh reports have suggested that Suarez would be able to move to Barca or Real if either club triggered a clause in his contract.

The forward has now denied that such a clause exists, insisting that he is only thinking about this summer's World Cup and not any potential transfer.

"I know what I want and what my agent says is good for me, but I don't want to comment on speculation," Suarez is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. "I didn't sign any contract with clauses prioritising a certain team.

"My focus is on the World Cup now. Our group is one of the most difficult. We will go forward thinking in each game as it comes."

Suarez was recently voted the Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year.
