Manuel Pellegrini "not concerned" about Manchester City future

Manuel Pellegrini insists that this season has not been a failure, claiming that reaching the last-16 stage in the Champions League shows that his side have improved.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has insisted that he is "not concerned" about losing his job at the end of the season following his side's exit from the Champions League.

The Citizens fell to a 3-1 aggregate defeat in their last-16 meeting with Barcelona, bringing to an end any hopes of succeeding in Europe's elite competition for another year.

Things look equally as bleak domestically, with a poor run of form since the turn of the year in the Premier League seeing City fall well off the pace in the title race and out of both cup competitions.

However, despite the increased pressure, Pellegrini has refused to accept that the axe will come down in the summer on the back of what is likely to be a trophyless season.

"I don't see it as a failure, a disappointment obviously, but the last couple of years we have improved in Europe and reached the last 16," the Chilean is quoted as saying by the Daily Star.

"Had we met another team than Barca we might have gone through. And the financial restrictions placed on us prevented us from signing some of the players we wanted last summer.

"It is not the right time to analyse where we need to improve. We must do that at the end of the season. But I'm not concerned about my job. We are still second in the Premier League and must pick ourselves up for the final nine games of the season."

Next up for City is a home match against West Bromwich Albion.
