Edinson Cavani 'wanted to make Manchester United debut in Spurs game'

Free agent Edinson Cavani allegedly wanted to make his Manchester United debut against Tottenham Hotspur, rather than wait until after the international break.

Edinson Cavani allegedly enquired about making his Manchester United debut against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

Over the past 72 hours, numerous reports have claimed that United are on the brink of signing the Uruguay international, who is available on a free transfer.

Although a deal is yet to be finalised, The Times says that the 33-year-old was keen to feature against Spurs at the weekend.

However, paperwork would have needed to be completed by midday on Friday for the former Paris Saint-Germain attacker to play against the North London outfit.

Providing that all formalities go through as expected, Cavani is likely to be named in the 18-man squad to face Newcastle United after the international break.

Anthony Martial will be suspended for that contest, increasing the chances of the frontman being used in the starting lineup.
