Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke suggests that Manchester United "misjudged the situation" when attempting to sign Jadon Sancho.

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has suggested that Manchester United "misjudged the situation" when attempting to sign Jadon Sancho over the summer.

The Red Devils were strongly linked with the England international during the recent transfer window but were unable to come to an agreement with BVB over a transfer fee.

Watzke did not mention United by name when discussing the situation but hinted that the English club's move for Sancho was "misjudged" as they failed to get a deal over the line despite a long pursuit.

"[They] misjudged the situation. We would be more willing to compromise. We had a clear line and will continue to do so next summer. In this industry, you can never say that a player is completely unsellable," Watzke told ZDF Sports.

Dortmund are believed to have refused to drop their £109m asking price, which Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side were not prepared to meet due to the financial impact of the coronavirus outbreak.

The 20-year-old, who could be a target for the likes of Liverpool and Bayern Munich next summer, has started the 2020-21 campaign with one goal and two assists in four outings for Lucien Favre's team.
