Alan Pardew 'not confident' of keeping Yohan Cabaye

Alan Pardew admits that he could be powerless in trying to keep Yohan Cabaye at Newcastle United.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has conceded that he could lose Yohan Cabaye's services before Friday's transfer deadline passes.

The midfielder was reportedly the subject of a recent £14m bid from Paris Saint-Germain, who, having seen that rejected by Newcastle, are expected to return with an improved offer in the near future.

"You are talking to someone who lost Andy Carroll with eight hours to go. Am I confident? No, I'm not," he told reporters.

"I don't think any team not in a Champions League position could be. We know we have got a club interested in Cabaye - a wealthy club and a powerful club.

"We are very conscious of that, but we are doing our very best to protect Newcastle."

It has been reported that Newcastle would consider a bid in the region of £20m for the 28-year-old.
