Tim Cahill leaves New York Red Bulls by mutual consent

MLS outfit New York Red Bulls announce the departure of Australia's Tim Cahill by mutual consent.

MLS outfit New York Red Bulls have announced the departure of Australia's Tim Cahill by mutual consent.

The 35-year-old joined the Red Bulls from Everton in the summer of 2012 and has gone on to score 16 goals in America.

"This decision was not made lightly, and it is the result of many conversations between our staff, Tim, and his agent," Red Bulls sporting director Ali Curtis told the club website.

"After much deliberation, we have agreed that this decision is best for all involved. We thank Tim for his service to the organization. He positively impacted the growth of the beautiful game in the United States, MLS and for the Red Bulls."

Cahill, who is Australia's all-time top scorer, said that he would announce his next chapter in "due course".

Reflecting on his time with the Red Bulls, Cahill said: "I joined with the ambition of helping to grow and positively affect soccer in the US and I feel immensely proud of what we achieved as a team during my time in the MLS."

He recently helped the Socceroos win the Asian Cup as they defeated South Korea in extra time.
