Richard Dunne and David Forde are doubts for the Republic of Ireland's clash with the Faroe Islands on Friday night.

Republic of Ireland duo Richard Dunne and David Forde are doubts for Friday's Group C World Cup qualifier against the Faroe Islands.

Thirty-three-year-old Dunne - who was recently released by Aston Villa - was rated as '90% certain to play' by Trapattoni earlier in the week, following the defender's comeback from a year-long absence in his side's 4-0 win over Georgia on Sunday.

However, Dunne suffered a setback in training today, with Trapattoni selecting Sean St Ledger and John O'Shea as his defensive partnership in a training match.

Forde missed his side's 4-0 win over Georgia with a calf injury and has taken part in just 20 minutes of training today, but is confident that he will play on Friday night.

"The calf is very good. I trained today and there were no problems, I will be back fully training tomorrow and hopefully play on Friday night," Forde told the Daily Mail.

"There is no doubt in my mind, it is not a problem, not a problem, I'm 100% fit.

"It was more precautionary than anything. There was a spell there when there was no need to aggravate it. The doctor and the physios did tremendous work and we've got it right, that was the main thing. I'm fit and ready to rock on Friday night."

If both Dunne and Forde play against the Faroe Islands, they will win their 78th and ninth caps respectively.
